Born in 1991, Adam Wardziński rose from the Polish grappling scene to the very top of the sport under the Checkmat banner. A student of Alan "Finfou" do Nascimento, his lineage traces back through Ricardo Vieira and Romero "Jacaré" Cavalcanti to the Gracie family. He first broke through internationally with the 2019 IBJJF No-Gi World title, then made history at gi black belt: in 2024 he became the first European man to win the IBJJF World Championship at black belt, repeated the feat in 2025, and the same year completed the IBJJF Grand Slam (European, Brazilian Nationals, Pan and Worlds in a single season), the first European to do so. He retired in June 2025 as Poland's most successful BJJ competitor.
