Álvaro Ribeiro is one of the Brazilian black belts who have spent serious time inside the Frontline Academy ecosystem in Oslo. For years he taught at Frontline's Hasle location, where he was the day-to-day BJJ coach for Norwegian black belt Arne Kringstad and a number of others who came up in that programme.
Today he runs the main BJJ classes at Gym Ila in central Oslo. The 2019 Loop Choke workshop he gave is still referenced inside the Oslo grappling community — a small but characteristic example of the kind of technical specialisation he brings to a class.
Ribeiro's role in Norwegian BJJ is the unglamorous but essential one: the foreign black belt who shows up every week, runs the room, and finishes belts. The names that come through his sessions speak for it.
