Devi Ahuja made history in August 2010 when she became the first Norwegian woman to be promoted to black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The promotion was awarded by Eduardo "Teta" Rios, co-founder of Frontline Academy in Oslo and one of the most influential figures in Scandinavian grappling. Of half Indian and half Norwegian descent, Ahuja began training at Frontline Academy when women in BJJ were extremely rare in Norway, and she persevered through years as one of very few female practitioners in the country. Her competitive achievements include winning the ADCC European championship, one of the most respected submission grappling tournaments in the world. Beyond her competition career, Ahuja has been instrumental as an instructor at Frontline Academy, helping build the women's BJJ community in Oslo and serving as a role model for the next generation of Norwegian female grapplers. Her journey from beginner to black belt at Frontline Academy spans the formative years of Norwegian jiu-jitsu, and she remains an active figure in the sport.
