Biography
Frode Nilsen is a pioneering figure in Norwegian grappling, holding a black belt in the 10th Planet jiu-jitsu system awarded by Eddie Bravo himself in December 2022. With more than 27 years of martial arts experience spanning multiple disciplines, Nilsen has built a unique profile bridging MMA competition and no-gi jiu-jitsu instruction.
In 2015, Nilsen founded 10th Planet Bergen, making it the first 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu affiliate in Norway. The academy brought Eddie Bravo's no-gi system to Scandinavia, offering an alternative to the traditional gi-based BJJ schools that dominated the Norwegian grappling scene.
Beyond his role as an academy founder and instructor, Nilsen is recognized within the 10th Planet system for developing techniques that have become part of the broader 10P curriculum, including the Frodoplata and Gogoclinch. His competitive background includes professional MMA fighting and winning the Norwegian Sanshou championship in 2009, reflecting the breadth of his martial arts expertise.
Nilsen's work at 10th Planet Bergen has been instrumental in growing the no-gi jiu-jitsu community in western Norway, training a new generation of grapplers in the 10th Planet system.
