Hussein Abbas-Zade earned his nickname 'The Scorpion' the way most Frontline athletes earn theirs — by winning matches. He came up under Eduardo 'Teta' Rios at Frontline Academy Oslo and built a competition record that included gold at the IBJJF No-Gi European Championship at purple belt and bronze at the IBJJF Lisbon Open before reaching black belt.
Parallel to grappling, he fought professional MMA to a 3-3 record, mixing in the cage what he was doing on the mats. The bigger long-term impact, though, has been off the mats: he founded the Norwegian BJJ retailer JitsButikk and runs BJJ Fightgear Norway, and is sponsored by Kingz — making him one of the central commercial figures keeping the Norwegian BJJ economy running.
He continues to coach at Frontline alongside his businesses.
