Joakim Bomstad earned his black belt at Frontline Academy Drammen in March 2020 after training BJJ and submission wrestling continuously since 2010. The promotion came on the back of a competition record that included an IBJJF bronze in the adult featherweight division — a respectable result in a bracket that traditionally fills with European specialists.
He works as a certified personal trainer alongside his coaching, which gives his sessions at Frontline Drammen a recognisable physical-preparation flavour — strength and conditioning integrated naturally into a technical class rather than bolted on.
Inside the Frontline network, the Drammen room is the slightly quieter sibling to Oslo, and Bomstad is one of the senior black belts who keeps its day-to-day mat life going.
