Biography
Jose Jurandir Moura trained under George Gracie, Pedro Hemeterio, and Takeo Yano. In 1955, he established the first jiu-jitsu academy in Pernambuco, northeast Brazil. His most famous student was his neighbor Euclides Pereira — the only man to defeat Carlson Gracie. In 1959, Moura sent student Jose Maria Freire to Campina Grande, where Freire taught Ivan Gomes. Moura himself fought Waldemar Santana in 1958, losing in 7 minutes. He held the rank of 8th degree coral belt at his death on January 28, 2010.
