Marit Tyssedal Gabrielsen received her black belt at Frontline Academy Voss in 2024, in the same promotion class as Rutger Custers. The recognition followed a coloured-belt career stacked with European and Master Worlds medals at brown and purple, the kind of run that makes a black belt feel earned long before the ceremony.
Her life outside the mats is unusual for the role. A former second lieutenant in the Norwegian Military, she is also co-founder of The Integrated Human and serves as an assistant instructor at Frontline Voss. The mix of military discipline, technical jiu-jitsu and integrative practice gives her teaching a particular voice in the room.
For Norwegian BJJ, she is one of the female black belts whose career has played out outside the dominant Oslo and Bergen scenes — a Voss-based competitor making the western Norwegian academy visible on the European Master circuit.
