Owen Livesey, born in 1991 in St Helens, England, is a British submission grappler who built his combat-sports foundation in judo before establishing himself on the professional no-gi circuit. Trained in judo at the SKK Judo Club under coaches Peter Blood and Luke Preston, he became a decorated judoka, winning gold in the 81 kg division at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and taking the British national judo title three times (2013, 2014 and 2017). He holds a 2nd-dan (nidan) black belt in judo.
Livesey later transitioned to Brazilian jiu-jitsu and submission grappling, and in June 2022 he was promoted to BJJ black belt by Carlson Gracie Jr., a 5th-degree black belt. He is the owner and head coach of Carlson Gracie Hull. His judo-rooted, throw-heavy style has made him a distinctive presence in the heavier weight classes of modern no-gi competition.
On the international stage, Livesey competed at the 2022 ADCC World Championship in the 99 kg division, where he entered as a late-notice alternate and lost his opening-round match to Kaynan Duarte. At the 2024 Craig Jones Invitational he competed in the +80 kg bracket, defeating Mahamed Aly before falling to Nick Rodriguez by rear-naked choke in the quarterfinal.
Livesey's most significant grappling achievement came in 2025, when he defeated Tommy Langaker at Polaris 33 to claim the vacant Polaris light heavyweight championship. Combining continental-level judo credentials with a growing professional grappling record, he is regarded as one of Britain's more accomplished heavyweight grapplers of his era.
